Posho Gorilla Group
Posho gorilla group is one of the gorilla families located in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park provides a haven for the endangered mountain gorillas. Therefore, we encourage you to explore this dense and bio diverse ecosystem where the Posho Gorilla Group resides in the heart of Uganda’s pristine wilderness.
The Posho group is led by silverback Magara and during your trek. You will meet the charismatic members of the Posho Gorilla Group. Each with their unique personalities and roles within the community. We introduce you to the silverbacks, females, juveniles and also infants that make up this interesting gorilla family.
Unlike most of the gorilla groups, this family is still undergoing the habituation process. According to the Uganda Wildlife Authority. This group will be open to visitors for trekking in the near future. The Nkuringo sector is the Southern gorilla tracking sector in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. And once Posho gorilla group officially opened for trekking, the sector will have 4 gorilla families.
The background of the Posho gorilla group not so rich since a newly established group. That got its name from the founding Silverback called Posh. He broke off from Rafiki’s leadership, head of the Nkuringo group so as to start his own group which later came to be flourishing and growing with a total of 14 members.
Posho gorilla group comprised of 14 family members and they are all under the leadership of Magara silverback. Known for chest thumping when visitors approach. Silverback Magara also responsible for the well-being of all the family members. Posho Gorilla Group stands out as a testament to Uganda’s commitment to the conservation of wildlife. And the protection of its endangered inhabitants.
The Posho family’s presence serves as a great reminder of the delicate balance between human interaction and wildlife preservation pointing out the importance of responsible tourism and the protection of habitats.
Besides Posho gorilla family group, Nkuringo also contains other gorilla families including Nkuringo, Bushaho and Christmas. The Nkuringo group got its name from the Nkuringo region and was previously led by Rafiki silverback gorilla. About 12 family members live in Nkuringo and this group is open to trekkers, it is also perfect for those visitors who need the most challenging gorilla treks.
Like it is said that the early bird catches the worm, trekkers have to leave for the gorilla trekking adventure very early in the morning. A briefing given to them by the Professional guides from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). After undergoing a short briefing, visitors then assigned a ranger guide. Who will lead them through the impenetrable forest in the search for the Gorilla group.
With trust in their trackers that they will glance at these creatures after a 2-7 hours trek through the jungles and thickets, on finding these magnificent creatures, a maximum of 1 hour is allowed in the presence of the gorillas. During his 1 hour, you will observe them feeding, playing and going about their day to day life. You are also allowed to ask your ranger guide as many questions. As possible and also take many pictures to keep your memories about Uganda.
